Foodprint App giving locals tasty deals

Globally one-third of all food produced for human consumption is wasted. Food that ends up in landfill decomposes and emits the greenhouse gas methane, which is damaging for our environment. The problem is so big that if food waste was a country it would be the third largest greenhouse gas emitter, only behind China and the United States!

In New Zealand alone, cafes, restaurants and supermarkets produce 50 000 tonnes of food waste. Over 60% of this is completely avoidable. This is what motivated its founders to start Foodprint

The app is extremely easy to use and has some pretty nice features.

The concept of Foodprint is pretty simple. The app directs customers to heavily discounted food that would otherwise be on its way to the landfill. You just need to download the app, check out what's on offer today, reserve it, and pick it up. Deliciously easy.

Foodprint currently operates in the Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Wellington, Nelson, Canterbury regions and has just arrived in Otago! While the list of cafes, restaurants and small markets is still relatively small, it is definitely growing and you can already get some fantastic deals from places like Taste Nature, Charlie Sparrow’s cafe, Modaks cafe, and Godfreys Bakery.
